Homestead Design, Inc.
Building
plans for barns, country homes, barn homes, stables and garages.
Since
1980, Craig and Jeanne Wallin's Homestead Design. Inc. has been
providing superior construction plans for buildings that combine the
best traditional values of simplicity, pleasing design and
flexibility with cost-saving construction techniques and
energy-efficient design principles.
The practical design of the buildings included in their collection
of plans are derived from traditional designs that have stood the
test of time. In an earlier time, people built their own homes and
outbuildings to last for generations, and took pride in their work.
In order to keep costs low, they built compact, expandable
structures that were economical to construct, maintain and heat.
Because many of their customers are also owner-builders, their plans
are drawn to be easy to understand, and include a materials list at
no extra cost, so you won't have to spend hours doing a "take-off"
from the plans.
You can build an affordable barn, garage, workshop or shed
without sacrificing quality with these sensible designs, careful
planning, and a willingness to do some of the work yourself. By
combining compact floor plans, simple traditional styles, and
labor-saving construction techniques, these designs offer you a
way to "build it better yourself" at an affordable price.
Craig Wallin's
popular book "Small Barn Plans for the Owner Builder" can guide
you through your building project.

It's difficult
to find nice cupola plans for do-it-yourself builders. Homestead
Design offers one of the best. It was designed to be an
easy-to-build and affordable alternative to the expensive
pre-built cupolas available for sale. Instead of costing several
hundred or even thousand dollars, this cupola uses stock
materials such as prefab louver vents to keep the cost low. The
prototype cost under $100, and was built and installed in just 6
hours. You can see it here:
